Patrick Carson, 16, to Produce EP for Tik-Tok Singer

At just 16 years old, local Nanaimo teen Patrick Carson is set to produce an EP for 21-year-old singer and TikTok influencer, Sarah Lizzie. The story broke on TikTok when Lizzie first began teasing new songs from the upcoming collaboration with Carson.

Carson started music lessons at age seven, but says he “started producing at around nine or ten.” He began uploading beats to his YouTube channel when he was only 12 years old. “The views were slow, but it was fun to put my work out into the world and be able to get feedback on it.” 

Carson’s choice of music style has evolved over the past few years thanks to his new musical influences. “When I first started out, I mainly produced hip-hop and rap-style beats, but as I grew, I started to develop more of my own style. Now I’d say I make more alternative indie, outsider, and lo-fi style instrumentals.”

His musical influences include Tyler The Creator, Mac DeMarco, Domi and JD Beck, and Neutral Milk Hotel. Carson says he decided to produce Sarah Lizzie’s up-and-coming EP because “it was a great opportunity for me to get my name out there and to get more experience working in a more professional setting.”

Lizzie, a TikTok singer and influencer with 44K followers on the site and 281.6K likes, came across Carson’s talents when she was searching for instrumentals on YouTube. She was immediately impressed by Carson’s distinctive style and reached out to him. “I really liked this one beat he had posted, so I contacted him to see if it was still available. He said it was, and from there, I decided to ask him if he wanted to produce all of the tracks for an up-and-coming EP I’m working on.”

“It was a great opportunity for me to get my name out there and to get more experience working in a more professional setting,” Carson says.

Lizzie hopes the collaboration on the EP will launch her career: “Hopefully, people will want to listen to my stories and maybe relate to them too. I definitely think his style has a lot of potential to really make this EP stand out.”

Lizzie and Carson have been actively working on this EP for the last three months and the track list is said to include eight original songs. “We were originally planning on only doing about five or six, but as we kept working we kept coming up with new ideas” Carson says.

Carson and Lizzie have yet to announce an official release date, but have suggested it will be early January. “I’ve had a lot of my fans messaging me asking when certain songs will be coming out so I know it will have to be soon” says Lizzie. 

As Carson is still in the early stages of his career, he has only worked with a small number of artists. Other than Lizzie, Carson has produced for comedy duo Soundfreeks on an album titled “A Seizure For Your Ears,” which was released in May of 2023.

Carson has producer credits for 23 of the 26 songs on that album. “It was a really fun album to work on, I had a lot of great production ideas that I was able to include. I think working on that album really helped Soundfreeks develop their style and I know that I’ll be able to do the same for Sarah.” says Carson.
